A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR MURIEL BOWSER AND DC ONE FUND CHAIRMAN BRENDA DONALD

This autumn, the District Government will kick off our 61st Annual DC One Fund campaign. This program is in line with our belief that we should do all we can to encourage and preserve pathways to the middle class for all. Begun to provide employees with an easy way of donating to their charities of choice via payroll deductions, the DC One Fund has grown consistently over the years. Last year, thanks to the generosity of you and your colleagues all across our government, commitments of over $1 million in pledges were received. In addition, the number of us who continued being, or became new, Fair Share Givers rose to its highest level yet: 654.  Fair Share Givers pledge between 1% and 3% of their annual salary. We hope you will consider joining those ranks by giving your fair share or more.

One of the more gratifying things about being Mayor of my hometown is seeing just how hard our government employees work each and every day making sure that the District of Columbia is a great place for all to live, work and play. Non-profits doing the hard day to day work serving the many needs of their clients rely on workplace giving drives such as the DC One Fund to sustain their operations. So, we’re proud to again partner with the United Black Fund and the United Way of the National Capital Area in this year’s campaign. Together, I am confident that we can reach a fresh goal of $1.0 million for this year’s campaign.

When you set aside a portion of your paycheck towards the DC One Fund, it could mean one less missed meal, one more night’s sleep off the street or even tuition coverage for summer camp. Think of those organizations you hold close to your heart and please consider helping them help so many more with the power of your designation(s).

If you just can’t wait until our big kick-off on October 1, 2015, feel free to visit the DC One Fund pledging website at www.dconefund.org or for more information visit www.onefund.dc.gov.

Thank you for considering our request—we hope to see you at the kick-off and/or agency fairs throughout the District.

Sincerely.
